They're moody, picky, extremely self-conscious and sometimes unpredictable. Teenage girls may be hard to shop for, especially if you don't have one yourself and aren't up-to-date on the latest trends among their age group. As the mother of a pre-teen girl and a former cheerleading coach for teenage girls, I'd like to think I know a little something about what they're into these days. Plus... well, you know... I was a teenage girl once myself.

Music CDs have gone the way of 8-tracks and cassette tapes. These days, all hip young teen girls either have or want an MP3 player, and Apple' s iPod Nano seems to make the best. I even have one. Other colors are available as well.

For girls that already have an iPod, a gift that's always appreciated is an iTunes gift card so they can purchase and download more songs from the iTunes online store.
